The STC was formed in 1999 as a not for profit theatre company bringing the performing arts the community. Starting with workshops for youth groups in South Moor, Stanley and Dipton the company soon established a reputation for delivering community based theatre. In 2003 a senior group was formed which was based at Stanley Community Centre, Tyne Road, where it still resides today.
The aim of the company is to develop theatre skills and work closely with the community to deliver performing arts programmes. The junior section (6 – 16 years) formed after the theatre companies first Pantomime “Cinderella” and has continued to go from strength to strength over the years, delivering a high standard of productions.
The group prides itself on promoting equality amongst the members where a “closed shop” attitude is not present. It is believed that everyone should be given opportunities when they are ready to do so, and encouraged to reach their potential.
The STC also engages in social activities outside of the group promoting an ethos of team building.
